CCA Summer Series: Division 2 Power Rankings

1. (+7) University of Oregon

  • Finishing the season on a 6-game winning streak, with a 9-2 record overall is good enough to earn Oregon the top spot in Division 2. Six of the seven rankers agreed that Oregon was on top of div 2 which truly shows their strength. While they did lose out to UVU on the top seed in the West on game differential, they did beat UVU 3-2 in the regular season which was enough for the rankers to put them on top. Oregon has been in CRL before, and could prove that they still have it in them by taking out some Div 1 teams in the playoffs.

2. (+7) Utah Valley University

  • Finishing 9-2 and winning the West in Div 2, UVU has proven that they are a force to be reckoned with, winning 6 of their last 7 series to close out the season. Their two losses came to other top 4 West teams, so they certainly didn’t make it to the top by any flukes. We’ll have to see if they can continue to pace Div 2 and make it the farthest in the Tower of Doom of any of them.

3. (-1) RPI Engineers

  • Despite finishing 2nd in the Eastern Div 2, RPI will be the highest ranked East team after a strong 9-2 season. Despite losing to both of the other top 3 teams (Durham and UIC), the rankers think that Furane and Relax have what it takes to push further in playoffs then any of the other East squads from Div 2. They took out the other 9 East Div 2 teams, but now they’ll have to prove that they can fight against other top teams if they want to make it.

4. (+3) Durham College

  • Durham is the only team in the Div 2 top 4 of either conference that has actually beaten the other 3 teams in the top 4 with them. With wins over RPI, UIC, and UNCC, Durham has proven that they can beat the best of Div 2, and look primed to upset some Div 1 teams with potential matchups against OSU Gray and NoVa. Despite losing to some lower East teams earlier in the season, Durham has won 6 straight series, not losing in the last 3 weeks. These guys are grinding, and looking for a chance to prove they can still be #1.

5. (-1) UIC-CGC A

  • UIC won the Eastern Division 2 Conference, yet find themselves 5th in the Div 2 rankings, and 3rd of the East teams. A 0-3 loss to FSU and a 1-3 loss to Durham brings them down a bit, but they beat RPI (the highest ranked team in the East) which gave them the division. Despite the same record and game differential as RPI, and winning the division on H2H, only two of the rankers put UIC above RPI. Some rankers feel that RPI has a higher ceiling in the Tower of Doom, but both are still alive so far.

6. (-3) WSU Esports

  • WSU looked primed for a shot at the top spot in the West after just one early season loss to UVU. Things turned ugly for WSU on the final day of the season with a 1-3 loss to Kansas and a 2-3 loss to ISU bringing them down to 8-3. While this is still a successful season for them, it could have been even better and they’ll be looking to show that in playoffs. Victories over UMN and Oregon show that this team can handle tough competition, keeping them close to the top despite those losses to lower teams.

7. (-6) UMN Golden Gophers

  • The biggest fall in Div 2 this time around goes to the Gophers after a terrible last few weeks brought the former #1 team down to 7th. In their last 3 weeks UMN went just 2-4 and while that did include a win over Oregon, losses to UNR, Utah, WSU and Kansas outweighs that. This squad still has potential in it with players that could easily be at home in Div 1, which led them to be ranked above a few 7-4 teams despite finishing 6-5. We’ll see if the team can get back to their early season ways in the Tower of Doom, but anonymous reports say that Phat is too busy playing Valorant to get good at RL.

8. (-2) UNC Charlotte

  • Despite a solid 7-4 record in Division 2, UNCC will find themselves with the #4 spot in the East after losses to all three teams above them. Other than an early season loss to UGA though, they beat all 7 of the other teams under them to complete a decent season. UNCC will need to show that they can beat teams above them though if they want a shot at breaking out of the Div 2 section of playoffs.

9. (+8) University of Kansas

  • The biggest winner over the past two weeks, Kansas jumps 8 spots to crack the top 10 in Div 2. They closed out the season going 4-2 over the last few weeks, only dropping series to UVU and Oregon who sit atop the division. Outside of those two, Kansas is looking strong heading into playoffs, but if they struggle against the top of West Div 2, then it’s hard to say if they’ll be able to upset some series in Playoffs.

10. (+2) Florida State University

  • FSU managed to pull through with a winning season finishing with a 6-5 record. Although they lost to a few teams below them such as Drexel, Kentucky, and King, this team managed to pull off some upsets over Durham and UIC earlier in the season. FishhR and co. will have a tough road ahead if they want to do some damage in the Tower of Doom, but all these teams have that pop off potential for sure.

11. (+2) King University

  • After starting the season with 3 losses to some of the top East teams, King settled down and managed to close out the season with a 6-5 record. Going 5-2 in their last 7 series will set King up in a decent spot for playoffs, but a loss to Durham in the Tower of Doom sent them to the lower bracket in playoffs, making the road ahead even tougher for them.

12. (-2) University of Kentucky

  • After starting the season 3-1, Kentucky went 2-5 to close out the season leading to them dropping a few spots in the rankings. Kentucky’s 5 wins comes to the lower half of the East Div 2 while their 6 losses come to the 6 teams above them. Kentucky is a solid middle team in this division, but unfortunately bowed out of the playoffs early, going 0-2 in the Tower of Doom.

13. (+2) Iowa State Varsity

14. (-3) Missouri State Bears

15. (+3) University of Utah

16. (-) ASU Gold

17. (-3) Pitt Panthers

18. (+1) UNR Wolf Pack

19. (+1) RL BCIT

20. (+4) Drexel Dragons

21. (+1) University of Georgia

22. (+1) UBC Gold

23. (-2) RIT Fresh

24. (FF) Tenn Tech University
